There are a group of baby ducks, around 8 or so about a half a mile from my house that are nesting in the road (half or so on the shoulder, the other half on the road). I haven't seen their mother around and wondering the best course of action. They look like Mallards (brown/chipmunkish). Are they likely to survive without their mother? Is there a way to discourage them from sleeping in the road? just passed them @ 2am and saw them there again. I got out of the vehicle and corralled them into some high grass. Should I leave them be? Try to catch them? Advice?

They will surely be picked off by predators or get hit by cars, something must have happened to the mama do you have a rescue group in your area,? Animal shelter, you could try catching them and then see if any of these will take them, It's so sweet of you to care and I hope you can get them help. It's tricky when dealing with wild ducks though, so wishing you the best, oh and wild life rehabbers in your area maybe able to help. Let us know what happens.

Fortunately found someone with 'duck experience' to help round them up and give them a home. Hopefully it goes well for them, and at the very least, it's a reprieve from laying on a paved road waiting to be killed and/or eaten. Thankfully I don't have to add ducks to my critters; they're cute as can be, but after reading all the horror stories of how messy they can make a yard...

Good for you for going the extra mile so to speak to help them. Glad to hear you were able to find them a good home.
