Hello everyone,

So we are in the middle of building our run. We have just started to put wire up, but we are divided on one issue.. If we put hardware cloth on the floor of the run, do we need to do a skirt around the outside? The hardware cloth on the floor of the run will be zip-tied together and zip-tied to the hardware cloth on the walls of the run. Will zip-ties hold it together if a predator digs underneath? We will be putting bricks and other heavy stones around the outside base of the run.. will this be enough? The hardware cloth on the walls of the run is buried down into the ground a few inches.

Thanks!

I would just use the wire that they used to package the cloth in to weave the hardwear cloth together. It goes really easy if you have somebody on each side to pass the wire back and forth.

Ok, thanks! So you wouldn't use zip-ties?

im not a huge fan of zip ties in situations like this, but I think if u use enough of them make it secure with no gaps then it most likely be predator proof. also, the bricks along the outside will help.

Ok, thanks for your input!

If you got them already you can use them. Just remember to not leave any gaps where a critter could push its way thru. A good rule of thumb I heard somewhere is if you can squeeze your hand thru, a critter can squeeze thru.

Of course you could just do the wire threading, and then slap on a few zipties as well. Overkill is always worth it when it comes to keeping critters out.

Ok, good to know!
