HELP!!!!!!!! water problems!

Hi! My chickens are over a month old but I haven't finished the coop yet. they keep spilling their water and I don't know what to do. I have them in two seprate boxes. In one, I have a plastic waterer, but in the other I just have a dish. they keep tipping over the dish.
Its driving me crazy!

Any ideas?

A good sized rock placed in the dish should keep it from tipping. Putting the dish on a flat board so it is out of the bedding will help keep the water clean.

You could get water nipples or put brick under and rise it and put weight in it like nchls school said.

Maybe they need more room, i went through this also. I had a large plastic tote i kept them in but they soon outgrew that and would not stop spilling their plastic waterer. I moved them to a very large wooden brooder and they stopped i guess they were just bored or something. Maybe you should get rid of the dish, i read that they could drown in something like that. Just keep a chick waterer thats meant for chicks. Hope this helps!

Have you tried rabbit water bottles? Like these kind http://www.qcsupply.com/670262-pet-lodge-32-oz-clear-rabbit-water-bottle.html they come in a variety of colors, brands, and sizes. They also have glass ones if you prefer glass ones over plastic.. (by no means am I promoting this website, store, or any other business in particular the link is just to give you an idea of what they look like). I know it sounds crazy but chickens like shiny objects and peck at the little ball and that drops down a drip at a time for them so it saves water most of the time and that would make it to where you could hang it making it near impossible for them to knock it over. That is what we have found works best for our chickens. Or I have also heard they have chicken water nipples sold separately than the buckets that you can drill a hole to insert the nipples into place on a the bottoms of buckets but it is the same general concept. The rabbit water bottles are already done so there's no extra work that has to be done.

I have a large rock in the dish like nchls school suggested. Maybe they do just need more room. I really don't want to buy anything at he moment since the coop will be done in a few days. I'll see if I can get another plastic box. hopefully it will work and they will stop spilling their water!

Hopefully the rock will do the trick. Otherwise, see if you can get a plastic bucket with lid from the bakery or deli section of your grocery store. Take a hole saw and drill a hole or four a couple of inches up and then fill with water to the line. That way, they shouldn't be able to get all of themselves into the bucket and they shouldn't be able to tip it, either. Good luck with your new coop!
