HELP!!! We have a BEAR!!!

Ha! You are probably right! Our new door is wood but a SOLID 3-1/2" thick... locked in three places...we will see...

Electric fence.

We had a bear do the same thing. We had a 6 x 6 chain link dog run around our coop. The bear picked it up and put it on its side. We lost all but one of our birds. That night we moved the bird into garage. The bear broke into our garage, a four foot by four foot hole in the garage. They came and trapped the bear and relocated him, but he was back within a month. The funny thing is that they told us that bears don't like meat, they would rather eat berries. I have pictures somewhere... I'll have to find them.

Another tranquilizer dart please!

Do you have a garage or a basement or the kitchen to house your chickens at night until this bear issue is resolved? He might find a hen house accessible, but not a more secure building. I can't imagine how entirely terrified those poor hens are with a bear coming after them night after night.

thats the last thing you should do! (did you see the pics in the last post.) and this bear ripped a door in HALF. I'm assuming if its this hungry it could very well be a female with babies...?(recently out of hibernation!!) that thing could probably just bash through a window if it wanted! Bears are perfectly capable of breaking into a house!!

We have a barn. I've been keeping and ducks and geese in at night. We may have to move all the chickens down there as well. I know. All of us are a bit scared. We kinda feel like we are under attack!

Yep! Agreed! So says the DNR as well...don't want to move the "food" aka chicken pals any closer to my family and home. Need to find some way to keep them safe without causing more problems. Bear will rip through windows, doors, whatever...I guess.

Can't believe those garage pictures and what it did to our door!

We ended up loosing all of our birds, but the bear never went away. It never broke into our garage again, but it did go through the screen porch. It walked around the porch, walked right by our french doors and then ripped through the screen on the other side of the porch. He hasn't been much of a problem since we put up the electric fence.

But we also moved. No bears here!

I had a young bear come through here checking out my coop too. The only thing that will stop a bear is a good electric fence. You should be getting one up ASAP and ZAP that boy silly!

P.S. - I'd keep a gun loaded in case he trys something stupid, like come in the house. Happened to a neighbor of mine - she was baking pies and this giant bear decided he wanted to check and see if they were done yet! Crazy things happen in this world!
