HELP!!! We have a BEAR!!!

it is the time off year when bears are hungry! please be careful of what you have in your home as well several homes around my parents house have had bear break ins, if food is scarce in your area for them they wont have a problem with helping them selves to stuff in your kitchen

Maybe I missed it in previous posts, but have you checked local law on whether or not you can shoot pest animals and wildlife that puts people and property in extreme danger? That's really the only good way to deal with the problem of an aggressively trespassing bear. Electric fences may work, but it will move on to the neighbor's house if it is hungry enough. Relocation is a farce, because it doesn't change it's behavior. Animals like this are VERY DANGEROUS and should be killed. Don't get me wrong, I think they are beautiful creatures and have a role to play in nature, but your back yard isn't "nature".
I spotted a cougar across the street from my house in a field a while back. I have a very loud and large dog that I believe keeps it at bay, but we also have deer around that brings it close. That said, I will look at and enjoy it from a distance, marvel at it's wild beauty try to even shoot it with my camera, but the instant it crosses my property line and goes after my pets or chickens it becomes a threat to my human family and I am going to blow it away (hopefully this never happens). To wrap it up...I would consider your bear on my property to be a threat to my family's safety and would dispose of the animal, but each property owner should have the right to determine the threat level to their own family and act accordingly within their property.

here you can shoot it if it is showing to much intrest in your house but you do have to aply for a permit first , it is worth it to ask

We were told that we could NOT harm the bear in any way. They are endangered here, so they are protected. I had a friend who hit one with a car and got a ticket for harming a bear!

I consider him to be a threat too...we have people to call...thye come right out and set a trap. Better them than me. They seem to know what they are doing. I wouldn't want to shoot and miss or shoot and anger...

Hopefully I'll be posting pics soon of our monster in the trap, our monster being driven away...

Between the relocation of this one and electric fence for everything else, perhaps our bear problem will be solved!

(Or so I hope!) My ducks keep flying off in the middle of the night and coming back in the AM, the bear is after them now...but they can FLY!

Yikes!!!!!!!!!! Poor little chickers, I cannot even imagine that horror, where are you located? I sure home they can find him a new home! If it's a mama bear I hope they can rehome the cubs with her! Take care!

Boy, this is a really scarey situation! I'm not sure where you live but when I lived in CO a few years back we had a Mountain Lion kill some of our sheep. The wildlife department came out checked out the footprints and the way the sheep were killed and verified it was a mountain lion. They said if it came back to call them NOT to shoot it and they would take care of it. But, I mostly wanted to say that they reimbursed us for the value of the sheep. In CO the wildlife actually belongs to the state and they are responsible for any damage they do to your livestock. They will even pay you for loss of hay from deer.

You might want to check your state laws and at the very least you could get a check from the state for your losses. Won't bring back the poor chickies or make you feel much better but your wallet might appreciate it.
I hope you get this problem solved in the best interest of everyone (including the BAD bear)
Cheers,
Carole
