Hey all! I live in the Chicago area and on Wednesday and Thursday, it’s supposed to be below -50 (with windchill and everything). I have trapped my entire coop, put extra bedding in the coops, have two heating walls in one coop, and I have 7 chickens and 1 bantam. Should I do anything else to keep my girls warm? I’m scared that they will get frost bite or die. Should I move them to the garage temporarily or leave them inside their coop? Thank you!

They normally do ok as long as they are out of the wind. Bringing them to a different area is totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with. You can use vaseline on combs etc to help prevent frostbite.
Okay thank you!! I might bring them in and put some Vaseline on their combs.

With only 7 it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring them in. You never know something stupid could happen. I brought all my birds in because of that. Even though they can take a ton of cold -60F for a windchill is COLD. I don’t want to risk it.
Okay thank you!!! I thought it would be too cold for them since I have a little one who just started molting a weekish ago.
