HELP - Weird Noise and not eating - WHAT'S WRONG

Pictures were just to help you understand what you're looking at, but I'm thinking maybe you don't need them, lol. However, if she were mine, I would be tube feeding her. Info on how to here:

There is now way to safely syringe enough fluid to her (10% body weight per day), so tubing is what I would recommend if she isn't drinking or is losing weight.

Oops! That should have been obvious - lol! They don't have a forehead-slapping emoticon to insert on my behalf!

Ethel was acting and eating fairly well, no apparent changes from the last two days, but suddenly went into respiratory distress at 5:00pm that didn't stop. My husband put her down for me.

Thank you all for your help and support. This is the un-fun part of chicken keeping.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Poor Ethel! I hope you can do a necropsy or have one done by the state vet to find out what was wrong. Casportpony has lots of instructions on her links about shipping for necropsy. Take care.

Free necropsies for CA residents, but I understand why people would rather bury them instead.

This is how I send them:

Using the Davis Fed Ex number will save a bunch on shipping. Most it cost me was $19 to overnight a nine pound hen. If you send to the Turlock or Tulare lab you'll have a preliminary report the day the receive them. Of course if you're close enough to Davis you could drop her off at the Davis lab.

I was going to take her in but my 12-yr-old is very upset about the whole thing so we are doing a burial. We've been lucky enough that all our animals so far have died quietly of old-age at home. (Hopefully I won't come to regret not having it done.
