Hi everyone! I feel like my farm life has just been one thing after another. Our dogs recently broke into our duck yard and did a little bit of damage. Two of our female Pekins were hurt. Neither too bad, the one I need help with just had a single puncture wound to her side, not too serious.
Today we went out to clean around the area and apply iodine (she hasn’t been bathing herself which was odd to begin with), and everything with the wound looks fine and was healing better than i had thought. But then when we’re done and about to put her down we saw one white little white worm on my sisters dress (under the duck) and then we put the duck down and saw MORE.

I will attach photos of the worm to see if anyone knows what they are. I don’t know if it’s from an unknown wound (i checked her whole body thoroughly again tonight), her butt, or something else. Please help, i’m really worried since several birds are injured rn, strange parasites are not what i want to see!!

Unfortunately this is an emergency because those are maggots . This is flystrike and time is of the essence, don't mean to alarm you too much, just enough for you to know that her life could be in danger. You need to wash her as soon as possible and remove the maggots as best as you can, then repeat and repeat..... Best to bring her in the house and remove her from the environment where more flies could reach her. This thread contains plenty of details and links:

Again, time is of the essence.

THANK YOU. i will try to look around her again in the morning because she doesn’t seem to have any bowel issues that I know of and i could not find another wound. I will check again. I will also take her into my house tomorrow in a secure kennel.

Do you think it’s safe for my other birds right now? I’m going to be completely honest and say all we’ve had this last few weeks has been problems. We got some donation chickens and they all seem to have vent gleet (another fun pre-dinner task), will the flies be attracted to them too? There just isn’t any way we can bathe 15+ birds everyday. We are trying our hardest too keep up with that, treat wounds from a minor attack, and both of those seem to attract flies (from what i understand).
Any ideas on what i should do with the other chickens/ducks?

Sigh, when it rains it pours... What are you using for vent gleet? Are they slowly improving with the treatment, so you know you're on the right track? A quick localized bath or wipe down , and then miconazole, if it's a fungal infection. Also watching very carefully. Not all poopy derrieres end up with flystrike, even if it's summer, not by very far. The flies are very attracted to wounds, as far as I've read...
