Yes, but Hoovers does offer them:Aren't Lakenvelder rather rare?
I mean they're stocked by quite a few big-name hatcheries including Hoover's. Not the most common breed out of a feed store, but not the most uncommon either. Even at my own, local TSC I've seen Isabella Leghorns and I know many people have even gotten Welbars from them. If there were another breed that logically matched I would be the first to say it. I love the saying "when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras." In this case however, I do think it's a Silver Lakenvelder. My other option would be a Columbian Wyandotte with a single comb but that's even more of a stretch than a LakenvelderAren't Lakenvelder rather rare?
Lakenvelder have slate legs. However Columbian Rocks have this pattern in chick down and have yellow legs.
And I didn't even look at the hatchery website, they don't have Columbian Rocks. But they do have Columbian Wyandottes. That is a very good point. Several of us looked at the color and the comb, but forgot to consider the leg color![]()
So it might be a Columbian Rock (that they don't sell) or a Lakenvelder (with the wrong leg color) or a Columbian Wyandotte (with the wrong comb). And I didn't even look at the hatchery website, they don't have Columbian Rocks. But they do have Columbian Wyandottes.
