I set my eggs yesterday and i was running my incubator for a week with fairly steady temps being held. I have 4 thermometers in there and they are all saying different things from 95 degrees to 104 degrees. The eggs have been in there long enough so the temp they are giving off shouldnt be effecting the thermometers. Do you think the eggs will be ok or are they already toast.

What kind of incu? Where is the incu located? Does the room in which the incu is located have a steady temp.? I wouldnt think they are toast, but I would try to maintaim a steady temp. At this point what have you got to lose?

I built the incubator myself. Used a water heater thermostat, 100W light bulb and there are two fans blowing the air around. The incubator is in a bed room that has a steady temperture in it. Its only been a day i dont know how im gonna last 20 more!

Use the thermometer that you put in your mouth,
You may have to play with it to get it to start reading a temp,
but it ill be accurate, be sure they are at the same level in bator, like on top of eggs
Maybe the one that reads 104 is realy 98

How do you use the mouth thermometer without having to open the incubator

You will need to open it,
Some people open and hand turn the eggs several times a day.
Lock down is for the last 3 or 4 days
Too hot will cook the yolk
too low temp will make for a late hatch

Thank you for your help so far Yvonne. Low temps = late hatch. How low can it go before they die?

Might suggest trying a lower watt bulb, I use a 25 watt bulb. The idea is that if your using a water heater thermostat instead of a wafer thermostat, you want the lower watt bulb to slowly heat the box being that the water heater is slower to react to temp changes. Add bottles\\jars of water to act as heat sinks, I always put mine under the eggs to ensure they stay warm when I open bater. Also, if you picked up one of those electric thermostat \\ humidity readers, they pull the temp more from the metal they are attached to instead of the air around it, so they always read a little high.

I could try exchanging it for a 60w bulb that i have. I might run to Rona or Home Depot tomorrow and see if i can find a wafer thermostat. I do have a couple of jars with water in them sitting below the eggs
