My female call duck, who is the mother of all my call ducks was continuously laying eggs in a nest she had made in a hedgerow...last night was quite rainy but she persisted to sit on her eggs so I left it to her, but I went down to check later that night and there was no sign of her on the nest so I searched the garden, fields, rivers and road with a flashlight but no sign of her which is very unusual as she never wanders far...so after nearly an hour of searching for her I decided to continue my search in the morning as she may just have been sheltering somewhere else from the rain...so afternoon has come today and still no sign of her despite all the calling of her call duck family and her nest now has no eggs in it, but no obvious signs of destruction? The only real predators around here are foxes and rats..but I have kept ducks for many years and have not had one problem with one of these predators! So my question is does anyone now what might have happened to her and her eggs?! Any answers will be appreciated!

We had the same problem with one of our chickens. She went broody in our ferns and we let her stay on the nest. One night she just up and disappeared. The next night we put out a game camera and got several pictures of a coyote nosing around her nest. We figured he got her and came back the next night to see if there was more. Lesson learned the hard way!

Ok thanks for the reply..it just wasn't the reply I was hoping to hear but I suppose that must be the answer..can't believe this has happened though to my favourite of all my show ducks and I have had her for 4 years now and she had raised many broods and was a great mother duck and a lovely pet to have... :( Do you think it was a fox? Another of my call ducks (the daughter of the one that went missing) was also sitting on a nest close by and nothing touched her during the night? That's why I was confused about it being a fox as I taught if he was on the prowl would he not have taken the other duck and her eggs too? :/
