Help What kind of snake is grapic pics

I would rather have a rodent problem than a snake problem. I can poison the rats and mice. The snakes just scare the crap out of ya. My grandson walked up to one today. A chicken snake and the hubby let it go. I would have killed it. Now when I go out i'll have to watch where I go and keep a shovel or hoe in hand I find it it will be another dead snake. I put out poison for the rodents.

I don't know one snake form the other but a few. Black racer, rattle snake and if its in the water most likely its a moccosin. But even if it's a gardner it can and most likely will give ma a heart attack when I find it. So they have to go.

My daughter had a Boa get loose in her apartment and she had a 2 month old baby at the time. The grandson I raise now actually. I lived 1000 miles away and when I found out I was on my way and informed her it will be a dead snake when I find it and the baby is going ith me. She found the snake and rehomed it before I got there but the boy still came with me.

Sorry to all the snake lovers out there but I am just adamant about my feelings about snakes

eeewwwww....I don't like rats or mice and I agree that some snakes are beneficial but since your OP is asking for an id, I don't blame you for killing it if you weren't sure what kind it was at the time. If I don't know for certain that a snake is harmless it's a dead snake around here.

Sorry about your bunny!

Looks like a plain ol black snake or also called rat snake basically harmless to you, death on eggs and small chicks small rabbits mice and stuff like that. I was checking eggs last year in a 15 gallon barrel without looking and grabbed one spooked me for a second till i seen what it was but it never bit or even struck at me scared my wife to death she hates snakes with a passion dont matter if it is 3 inches long or 3 feet.

Prairie King Snakes are sooooo cool!!! Didn't even know they existed until I had one crawling across my almost bare (sandal clad) foot. OMG do you know how much those things look like a copperhead???? LOL I almost had a heart attack until I looked at his head. I laughed about my scare until he finished crawling across then went and googled to find out what he was.

Sorry, that was way off topic. Sorry about your bunny but sorry about the snake, too. I hope the rest of your babies remain safe.

I agree with you Gypsy, Rat snakes are wonderful for controlling rodents like rats and mice that bring diseases to your birds and rabbits also.
If a snake can get a baby rabbit, it will only eat one and is good for a few days to a week. If a weasel finds the same opening , it will kill them all!
It is best to make a more secure place for your rabbits.

I had a rat snake get into my brower brooder - how I will never know - in my feed room. When I went out there he had eaten 4 chicks as evidenced by the 4 lumps and killed 3 more that he had tried to swallow and regurgitated them. I was furious. These were LF cochin chicks that were 3 weeks old!
I did not kill the snake, but he was relocated a few miles away. I also re-enforced my brooder to now make it snake proof.

To the OP I am sorry about your bunny

I will say that it is a rat snake and not a king. King snakes are black and yellow. Also if you see a snake around water there is a good chance its a bainded{sp} water snake which is harmless. They have a attitude but can not hurt you. The shape of the head is a huge clue as to venomous or not. The triangle shaped head means its venomous but this isn't true in 100% of the cases.

I know the snake killed your bunny so it had to go but snakes are definately benificial. My SO, Snakeman and I go to 100s of snake removal jobs every year. We have 28 venomous snakes for his pets.

One thing for everyone to remember if they are scared of snakes and have made sure the snake they have found is non venomous is those snakes will eat other snakes like rattlers and copperheads, etc. plus all the mice they will consume. As long as my bunnies and chickens are in secured pens then you may want to leave the non venomous.

Also if you have spotted a snake and just have to have it removed there are people all over that do this.

Again, I'm so sorry about you rabbit. As much as I know about snakes this would have totally broke my heart.

Another thing to concider which is hard to do if you have chickens is as long as there is no food supply around {rats} the snake will not stay in the area. Keeping the area cleaned up, areas where the snake can get under and hide will deter them also.
