But Snake couldn't tell the diff between that and a large mouse.

I hope the rest of the bunny family is off the ground away from the snakes buddies.

Sorry about you livestock....

Rat snakes are actually a good thing to have around.

Next time think about securing your rabbit hutch if you can.

I have rats and I would mail order a rat snake if i could.

My chicks are ALL put up and I doubt this guy would have tried for one of my adult chicikens.

Not every one is comfortable with snakes aroung their property. I do not begrudge you for your actions.

So sorry about your bunny

It's tough because snakes can be quite beneficial. Ask anyone with a mouse/rat problem! I know there is a general rule about head shape as well to determine whether it is poisonous or not, if it has an arrow shaped head, it is poisonous. But some will flatten when they feel threatened so it is not iron clad by any means. also color patterns come in to play, red touch black kind to Jack...red touch yellow kill a fellow. I would say secure the bunnies and such and relocate any you find that would be a threatening bunny/chicken eating size.
I'm the official snake/spider/critter deal-wither for my house. So tedious.

I agree with you Gypsy, Rat snakes are wonderful for controlling rodents like rats and mice that bring diseases to your birds and rabbits also.
If a snake can get a baby rabbit, it will only eat one and is good for a few days to a week. If a weasel finds the same opening , it will kill them all!
It is best to make a more secure place for your rabbits.

Sorry for your loss. It figures, here I am on vacation hoping I can find some snakes and they are popping up in all the wrong places.

If it was chicken wire, many snakes could get through that.

I've made a lot of cages over the years, and I always use 1/2" x 1" welded wire mesh. It's strong, and the mesh is small enough that even really tiny exotic finches can't get through it. As with any cage, you still have to make sure that there are no large gaps around the door. I often use multiple cage latches around three sides of the door, to make sure there is no way to make an opening large enough for a critter to get through.
