I hope you can help me. I picked up a 1 1/2 yr old wheaten maran laying hen from this women she was moulting at the time, but I was told she lays about 3 eggs a week. I have had her 3 wks now I also have a black rock and a ameracauna. She has gotten along great with both birds so far. My concern is her floppy comb it was like that when I got her and the women said it was always like that, what does it mean? I also noticed that she closes her eyes a lot like she is always napping she also lifts one leg alot when closing her eyes. Everything else seems fine her poop, she is eating normal, but gets the grain stuck in her throat alot and then has to shake her head back and forth to dislodge it. Her new feathers are growing back nicely, and she seems to be done molting, but she has not started laying as yet. I have put a 25 watt bulb on a timer to start light at about 4am to extend the daylight for them. Does she have some sort of sleepy disease or is this normal for the breed? The women has alot of chickens and I don't think she lied about the age of the bird. I lost her number so I can't call to ask. Please help they free range about 3hrs a day, and dig in the compost pile for worms and snacks.
Any advice?

Some hens and some breeds of chickens have very large, floppy combs it is quite normal for these birds/breeds. If all else appears to be normal, I would not worry. Because of both the molt and the change of environment it will be a while before she resumes laying. Enjoy your birds.
