My 7 week cochin chick has been wheezing and sneezing quite regularly! When he clucks, it sounds very raspy. He has not lost his appetite and he isn’t acting strangely behaviour wise. I’m afraid he might have passed on the illness to my 7 week silkie (who is sneezing). I have given them some apple cider vinegar in their water and some ginger. Can someone please confirm the ratio of vinegar to water? What should I do?! HELP!!

Where did you get the chicks from, and how long have you had them? ACV won’t cure anything, but if you want to add it to water, 1 TB per gallon is safe. How often are they sneezing? Do you see any bubbles in an eye or eyelid swelling? Sneezing can be caused sometimes by dusty feed or environmental causes. Steady sneezing every few minutes could be infectious bronchitis. If you see eye bubbles, swollen eye or nasal drainage, it could be MG. Testing is needed to identify any disease. Can you see a vet?

Sneezing is quite often, maybe every 10 minutes (not whilst eating). There is no drainage or swelling either. I don’t have any poultry vets near me. I’m particularly worried about the wheezing!

Make sure it has good ventilation, minimal dust in feed or bedding, and keep bedding clean and dry to prevent mold and ammonia odor. Since a few diseases are caused by virus, antibiotics may not help. If symptoms worsen, there could be secondary infection, and then you might need an antibiotic such as Tylosin, Denagard, or Doxycycline, which unfortunately come from a vet.
