Help! Where can buy Mallard ducks in Houston?

Hello everyone. This is my very first post so I apologize if I’m posting something wrong. 6 months ago I found a pair of ducklings in my pond. I started feeding them and made them a little coop for protection. About a week ago, coyotes got into the coop and got the hen. I am heartbroken, I didn’t even know I had coyotes in my area. Now the male won’t stop quacking and seems very stressed. I am told I need to get a hen ASAP since the male lost its companion. I have reinforced the coop now that I know we have coyotes. The problem is that I can’t find a hen anywhere. Feed stores only have ducklings and the farms I called are only selling males. Does anybody know where I can find a hen in the houston area? Or any tips to help the remaining duck since he is acting so weird?

You mean catching one? I have seen mallards at parks before but I’m scared to catch another male since both of mine looked exactly the same to me until 4.5 months. Does the sex even matter or he just needs a companion?

A boy would be fine unless you’re really wanting a female. As long as he has a friend he’ll be happy. Be careful getting a mallard from a park or pond because that could be illegal. Domestic mallards that come from feed stores have one of their back toes cut off to tell the difference from wild and domestic. Maybe if you get one with a nub for a toe you wouldn’t get it trouble lol

Yeah catching a wild duck is means for getting in trouble but ideal poultry has domestic mallards although they arent sexed

Check on your local Craig's list for a mallard. you can get another drake as two drakes together are fine [I have three drakes together: they are "Los tres amigos"]
