I have 7 broody hens in the hen house on about 70+ Eggs. One hen had two eggs hatch yesterday. They are my first babies. She had them out in the pen yard today and none of her fellow hens or rooster seemed to act any differently around them. I went back out a couple hours ago and found mama dead on top of the babies (babies still alive and well). Mama had a large wound on her leg and bloody feet. My first suspect is my pain in the butt (literally), mean, loud, irritating rooster. Does anyone else think it may have been the rooster or suspect another hen? The cage was closed so no predator could have gotten her. All of my chickens are dark brahmas. I've separated the rooster and I'm thinking of broasting him. P.S. I found another dead hen a couple days ago. I have no idea who or what killed her.
