Hi everyone. My chicken went broody so my boyfriend decided to let her hatch the eggs she collected. After her babies were hatched and she took them out for the first time I realized she had 2 duck eggs under her as well but since her chicks had already hatched she was done sitting on the nest. I candled the 2 duck eggs (they are pekin) and they were both still alive but cold. I don't have an incubator so I did the best I could and put them under the heat lamp and kept their temperature at 99 to 100°F. I couldn't find my thermometer that also measure humidity so I put water in the bottom of a larger tupperware container and set them up a basket on a stand inside of the open Tupperware container. It's been about a week since and today they externally pipped. I was nervous about the humidity so we ran out to get a hydrometer and when we put it in there a humidity was only at 30% so I made a lid to cover three quarters of the Tupperware container to trap the humidity in there and got it up to 70%. The air cell is perfect size from comparing it to what I've seen in pictures online. Will they be ok even though the humidity was only 30% when they first externally pipped? The eggs have been moving around and I can hear tapping sounds still. I'm just nervous that the membrane will get stuck to them since they externally pipped before I was able to get the humidity up. Thank you.

Pictures will help
I tried to take pictures and realized one of my kids scratched my camera lens playing with my phone. These are the best I can do until I find my old phone and can take better ones. I wrote 1 and 2 on them lightly with pencil when I first put them into the homemade incubator so I knew which side was which and they also had a few spots with a tiny bit of dirt on them from being in the coop under my chicken before she stopped sitting on them but I didn't wipe it off because everything I read said to not wipe them off. Thank you.

They should be fine. They've internally pipped now or externally pipped?
I'd love to see your baby ducklings when they hatch! :love
Externally. It's only been 12 hours since i noticed the first one and about 7 since I noticed the 2nd egg was externally pipped. It was about 4 hours ago that I got the humidity up to 70%. They both pipped in the exact same place. If you enlarge the pictures you can see them both on the side of the eggs. Also thank you! I hope they make it. I'm trying my best. I wanted to leave the hen be and let her hatch her babies naturally but now I know to always check for duck eggs.

I just wanted to say thank you for the encouragement and give an update. Egg 2 hatched 3 hours ago. I did have to help it a little bit by chipping the very top of the shell and outer membrane away and peeling the inner membrane away from the duckling because it was brown and completely stuck to the poor thing. I let it come out of the shell on it's own after that. I made 100% sure all veins and the yolk was absorbed by taking a strong flashlight and looking through the shell where the yolk is located. It's already been up and trying to walk lots and has already drank water and cleaned it's own nostrils by dipping its beak in the water and blowing out. It's almost completely dry and fluff is almost normal except for its face which I plan on cleaning off with a warm wet towel after it's rested a bit longer. Egg 1 is a little behind and still has yolk and veins to absorb but it will need help out too once it's finished with that. I can see the inner membrane stuck too it and also brown when I shine a flashlight in there. I will definitely be investing in an incubator incase of another future emergency.
