Help with baby chicks

I will be getting some baby Bantam chicks this weekend. I will be keeping them in my house in a wooden box. Any suggestions on best way to keep them warm.? I had purchased a heat lamp and returned it today after reading that they often get to hot for the chicks.

If the lights are too hot, get lower watts - or hang the light securely at a farther distance above the brooder. You will need a wire top for your 'wooden box" as chicks try to fly early, if the fly or fall out of the box, they won't be able to get back in. If you have cats or dogs, that will give them every opportunity to harm the chicks.

Please get a good indoor thermometer and place on the floor of the box, so you can monitor the temperature by moving lamp closer or farther away.

Either the Mama Heating Pad or hanging the light higher would work. Pay attention to the chicks...if they stay huddled under the heat source, they are cold and if they stay as far from it as possible, they are hot. Comfortable chicks will move back and forth between the warmer and the cooler areas of their brooder.
