My husband just brought me a baby wood duck some guy tried to run over with his car on a main road where we live. He looked for mommy but she was gone. I have a mallard duck sitting on eggs that are due to hatch anytime, would she take in this baby wood duck? He still has his egg tooth so he's not very old. She comes off the nest often, should I put him in it when she goes? Never had wood ducks just mallards any help would be great, hate to loose him after all he's been through. Thanks!

Wait till all mallards are hatching to put it in with them, preferably as all are still undet momma as dark out. some ducks as my scovy and supposedly geese will take in ducklings anytime (my scovy adopted some chicks after feathered that id put outside),as common trait, most mallard type breeds need to be tricked into thinking its theirs.

how far along are your mallard eggs? by the time they hatch out he could be to old for her to accept him.. what you could do if youre going to let her raise her ducklings is just take one or 2 mallards and put them with your wood duckling. they will help him.
