Help with Back Sex-Links (pics)

One of your barred hens carries the columbian gene and a wheaten or a wild type gene. Barred birds often carry the silver gene so that is why the males are a lighter color.

If you are getting both silver males and gold females then it is more than one female barred bird that is involved.

one female is most likely extended black/wheaten, columbian restricted and silver or gold

the other female is most likely extended black/wheaten, columbian and silver or gold.

Going off what Tim said. I would bet it is your 2 Cuckoo Maran giving you the off color chicks...

Thanks again for all the input. Now that I added the other birds, I think I am going to remove the Cuckoo Marans from the mix and see if the problem goes away. The roo may be a little overwhelmed with 14 hens anyways, I think that 12 will be better. I will try and post pics of the hens soon.

Do you think that it is only with one hen that "HE" causes the problem? Wouldn't it show up more frequently if he is the problem? Thanks for the help, I am puzzled.

I think that it likely that recessive genes are the issue--and that takes a gene from each parent. His recessives aren't a problem when inherited by a chick who didn't inherit one from its mama--they only become a problem when the chick inherits from both papa and mama.
