Hey everyone , we have 5 week old Pekins or white layers im not 100% which. We have handled them since we got them at a week old. We give them treats and they will eat them out of our hands they will somewhat come to you when it’s treat time. It take them a little bit. But other then that they are scared to death of us. If we try to pet they run which makes getting them in and put of their pen is a chore. We try to take them out everyday to walk around and play in their pool. We just don’t know what else to do to get them to like us 😂😂 when they were 2-3 weeks old they would follow us around. Yeah not so much anymore. 😂

Welcome to BYC!

Around that age, they become more distant so really nothing uncommon, once they begin to mature they may become friendlier, giving treats on occasion, and sitting near the ducks will help a ton, try to make yourself as least threatening as possible. Slow movements and a soft voice are key.

I notice you have Pekins which are prone to leg problems, what are you feeding them, any supplements? You may read this-

there are different ways of being liked and trusted. My only group of ducks were not cuddly, nor did they want to take food from me, didn't want to come to me. I just accepted they had their own little duck group world and it sadden me. But they were listening, and responding. I could say anything and they were listening to what i had to say and follow any instructions or directions I gave to them. I loved and enjoy'd them for that. verbal or hand signals they knew "Duck Ducks" was about them ..... Never into trouble or misbehaving, you knew they liked you and trusted you in their own way don't take it personally.

this is what Ive been using, but I’m just about out. It was a small bag and need to get something else. They are out of this so I’ve been looking around. I know they need a good anmount of niacin. I guess I might have to get some of that yeast if I can’t find this feed anymore. We do give them mealworms and things like that too.

That looks like good feed for ducklings if you can find it. Purina makes feed for ducks now and also has Purina Flock Raiser crumbles which has perfect amount of niacin in it.

what about this one? This is the one our store currently hashttps://www.purinamills.com/chicken-feed/products/detail/purina-duck-feed-pellets

Consider this their teenage time. They only want money, to listen to metal in their rooms, and for you to make sure to feed them... they warm up a little bit once they graduate college. 😁
