I have 4 chicks about 7 weeks old. Can anyone help with breed and gender. I have never kept chickens before, any help will be much appreciated.

This one is the smallest of the four, but always fighting with -

this one, which is the largest of the four.

And these two are so placid.

Top 2 are cockerels, bottom 2 are pullets. Not sure of the breed, the appear cross to me. Where did you get them from?

My son brought them home from work about 4 weeks ago. He works in a fruit and veg store, a customer asked him if he wanted some baby chicks. He had no idea of age or breed. So I ended up with them, and now they are a part of our family.

Ha! Well congratulations! And welcome! If I were to take a guess on the breed, I might say black star. But I am sure about the gender.

Thats good and bad news, good news is I have got 2 pullets, bad news is I will have to get rid of the cockerels. I live in a built up area so I don't think the neighbours will take too kindly to being woken up first thing in the morning. I will keep them a while longer because they are real characters and a pleasure to watch.

Not sure on the breed, but probably barnyard mixes. Those are great and will lay lots of eggs for you most often. I agree that the top two are cockerals and the bottom two are pullets. I do have to warn you though........... there is this thing called "Chicken Math" that may kick in. That's where you realize that you can always add "just one more" to your flock

Love it!

Ha Ha, considering I didn't want any in the first place, I now can't see the back garden without them.
