We got 10 baby chicks from TSC back in March, so they are now about 16 weeks old (this picture was taken about four weeks ago). I believe the bin was supposed to be Buff Orphington for the red chicks, but not sure about the gray one and 2 black ones. Can anyone help verify their breed?

One of our reds laid her first egg on Wednesday, if that helps with the age/breed connection at all.

Some close up pics would help.

The reds look look sex links. The gray is possibly blue Andalusian. The black is not clear. What type comb and color feet?

Our gray girl: She has gray feet as well.

One of the blacks. The other one looks just like this one, except the red coloring covers her head. They both have dark feet/beaks.

Most of the others look pretty much like this, with varying degrees of red/white.

I will try to get new pics this evening, they are all trying to find shade for the hot afternoon right now. Their combs are much more defined now, so that might help.

Not breeds at all, but mixes. The red birds are indeed red sex links. A mixed bird designed for prolific egg laying. The black birds may be black sex links, also a mix designed for good egg laying. I'm dead sure on the reds, but not on the black, just from the one photo angle.

Good pics! I still think the reds are a type of sex link. The dark ones are probably black sex links. These types are supposed to be great layers, so I hope you have lots of room in the frige! The gray looks like Blue Andalusian, but I've only seen one (my neighbor's). It will have white ears. Very pretty. Hope some other folks confirm.

Thanks for the help! The gray one is a bit more stubborn than the rest, but has always been my favorite :0) I've never heard of Blue Andalusions... ::off to research::

I would say red stars and black stars and I am still looking at your gray one right now. I have both of those chicken to.

if she is a blue andalusian then she will have a single comb and skin color that is white, with shanks and toes a leaden blue. Hens are very fine layers of white or slightly tinted eggs with very little tendency towards broodiness. In size they are bigger then leghorns, but the same as the minorcas. They are rated in the ALBC Priority: Critical If you hatch any 50% will be all blue and the other 50% will be black, white, black/white combinations. So all of the chicks carry the blue genes and when mated black on white or with other blues in turn to produce many blue offspring. Very neat chicken I think it looks like one to and hope it is for you. Keep us all updated on her please so pretty!
