Hello, I'm hoping you awesome people can offer some educated guesses in relation to the breed of our chickens. We were told they are Australorp x Sussex but I've been informed that this is not the case. There are two plain white (one with white legs, the other with yellow), there are 3 red-brown (some white, the other yellow legged) and a red-brown & white one with very yellow legs.
Be bought them as week olds from 'lots' of bubbas / incubated eggs from yard full of chickens but they were sold to us as Australorp x Sussex...??? I'm not really bothered but the question was raised in a previous post & now I'm curious ;)

So there's a mix of yellow and white legs. I would say this is a great indication of them being probably second generation onwards mixes from sussex and probably leghorns and/or isa browns. Isa just because of the red coloring and the sheer popularity in backyards. Leghorn because it seems you're getting some rather slender, long bodied birds with tails on the long side.

Isa or white leghorn crossed with a light sussex would be able to give a solid white with white legs. In the second generation, there will be more color variety plus both white or yellow legs.

I don't think any of your birds got any australorp blood.. unless you have mostly black chicken.

The white one looks a lot like my Rhode Island Whites if that is a possibility.
Not a Rhode Island White as RIWs have rose combs instead of single combs.

I agree.

Thank you. I forgot to mention in this post that they are only 8 weeks old. I took a few more photos this morning ... they are so adorable <3
