Help with brooder heat plate!

I have the Rentacoop one from Amazon with no heat controls. I set it at an angle so it is very close to the bedding at the back and several inches up at the front - the chicks decide for themselves how close to the hot plate they want to be.
Yes, I was questioning earlier if mine was too hot. But they are fine and use it all the time now.

On newly hatched chicks how high should the front be?
Mine ended up being around 4-5 inches high in the front. I’m not positive because I was measuring the temperature, not measuring the height. I used a small temp/humidity gauge from Amazon to measure the temp. I basically just raised it until they looked comfortable staying under it.
And we had one of those feather skirts with it, so that should be noted. It keeps a good amount of heat in there when it’s not open on all the sides.
