My Black Giant Jersey hen has been setting on eggs and I figured it would be today or tommoroe when they hatch. Unfortunatly she is in the coop. Here is the problem.... I looked under her to see what if anything was going on and I found heard chirping and found an egg mashed, but breathing and chirping egg stuck, brought house and put it under light things didnt look good blood and mashed shell all bad it only lived about 10 min, So I went back out and looked under her and low and behold there was the cutest baby all dry under just looking at me like Hey shut the door your letting the cold in, she has other unhatched eggs under her. I want to bring her into our attached garage, should I wait another day to see how many hatch and will she make sure no one bothers the baby. I figure shes in lockdown. I'm so confused I dont want to risk the eggs. Will she stay with the nest until the others hatch? I have to work tommoroe till 330 pm. Please tell me everything will be alright. Never had a broody before.

She probably won`t leave the nest tomorrow, but sometimes they do. Hopefully your nest is ground level to allow access. If not, you must move her tomorrow evening to ground level. Some hens protect their young very well, some only as well as they can. If you have to move her, put her in a small pen away from contact with the flock. Carefull, ya don`t wanna squash a chick.........Pop

I know that all ready happen I think she mashed the egg dont think it was ready eyes still fused. The nest is not ground level and I have dog crate ready I just dont know how long to wait. Should I move her in the evening or when I get home from work?

When you get home should be fine. If any eggs have not hatched, might be a good idea to listen for peeps in them. If you have some peeping, better wait til the next day. However, the hen may try to leave the nest, so you should block the opening until you can get home and move them. This is why I constantly preach moving broody hens to their own small pen. Good luck..........Pop
