I carefully planned to get silkies and cochin, and 3 of the 4 died within hours (they were in the mail too long). After a frantic search to find the remaining chick companions we found a local place that had two bantams left (original place was sold out), but they were assorted, so breed was unknown. I've never had chicks before, but I'm pretty sure one is a buff silkie. It has black skin, five toes, and is very fluffy. The light one is obviously some kind of frizzle, but I don't know what kind. I know it's a bantam. It has five toes, and light pink, feathered legs. It also has light grey fluff and darker skin from behind the wings to the bum. I'm not sure if it qualifies a gypsy face, but it has dark skin around the eyes. I'm suspecting it a roo. It's chest bumping a lot, and is more assertive, and it's comb is growing in faster, but I don't have much to compare it to, since silkies don't have prominent combs. I hope I'm wrong because it's very cuddly, and the first to hop up on my hand when I put it in the brooder.
Unfortunately the last of the first 4 died the next morning. A week later I got two that are confirmed cochin. Because all of the first four died, the co-op was generous enough to hold two cochin bantams for me. I asked for black or blue preferably. I've looked at cochin chick color charts, and the one that looks like a penguin I think is probably black, but I'm really curious about the one that is black, white and brown.
Any ideas?
