Help with choosing Waterer, Please!

I'm looking for some hanging wateres online, is plastic as good as galvanized? I've read the galvanized aren't meant to hang. Any suggestions on the best hanging wateres out there? I'd like to get 2 3 gallons. I have 10 hens and a roo.. and they end up knocking there sitting waterer over everyday... getting the woodchips all wet. Thanks!

I propped mine up on cinder blocks and that seems to work well so far, no more dirty water

I did that too, but my roo likes to prop a leg up on the lip when he drinks...

I bought one of the plastic ones with a heater in the base in anticipation of winter. After about two weeks of use the handle broke as I was carrying it and the impact broke the base. I traded it in for a galvanized one. I wanted to hang the waterer, but now I have it on a block.

Hmm, maybe a larger waterer? I have I think it's a 10 gallon one, much heavier that they can't knock over, or maybe you can put a brick on top of the smaller one, if it's like flat top one.

I have 2, both are the plastic. One is a 3 1/2 gallon and one is a 5gallon, I bought them from TSC-Tractor Supply Company.

I like them both, I use one in the coop and one in the run. The 5 gallon one was harder to get used to, you have to tighten it just right in order for it not to overflow, and a little harder to clean the spout where the water comes out. The 3 1/2 gallon is very simple to use with the twist off bottom and easy to clean. This will be my 1st winter with the chickens though and I don't know how they will do in the winter time. I'll have to keep you posted on that, but otherwise I'd buy either of these again.

I have used Rabbit waterers too, and those worked well for when my chickens were smaller but I have ducks/geese using the same waterers and they would knock them over so quit using those!

You can always try a nipple waterer-I can pretty much guarantee they won't knock that over. I have more deets on my byc page-good luck!!

My oldest tractor has had a Little Giant five gallon galvanized double wall font hanging in it for about three years now. No problems at all. I have four other tractors with the same waterer hanging in them as well. No problems with any of them.

Because of the shape, they don't tip over. They're low, though, so you do need to put them on some kind of base. I didn't by the $18 base from Randall Burkey, though; I use some large clay plant saucers (couple of dollars), upside down. Works fine.

I don't use a larger capacity waterer because I dump out, clean and refill the waterers at least every other day.

I have a variety of waterers and I love my 7 gallon plastic one from the feed store. It is too heavy to knock over. I set it on bricks. I do have to lug water to it because it is too heavy for me to bring it full into the coop. Then I wait until it is low, bring it out and clean, fill it 1/3 of the way, bring it back in and fill it up.
I don't have a picture of it but it has a black screw cap on the top. Opaque white for body and red on the bottom. Heavy duty too.
