I managed to get more chickens than will fit in my current coop! Ack! Shocker!

I have an old hoop greenhouse that is ten by twelve and it would be great for my chickens. I live in northern Indiana, so I need tips on what I can cover the outside of my hoop house with that will not be too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. Do you all in northern climates who use hoop houses change coverings from summer to winter?? Now....my girls do free range every day that they can but in the dead of winter when the snow is deep or in the hot of summer when I am gone away on vacation and need to leave them for a week at a time, I need it to be ok. I will have an outside run enclosed by electric netting, and the house will be surrounded by electric netting, so I just need something to cover it with, not predator proof. I plan to leave the south side open at all times of the year.

I wonder if I could cover it with plastic or tarp in the summer on three sides, and then in the winter line that with insulated foil? That might work well.

Sorry I can't help you.... I live in Michigan, I am planning on using a hoop designed run with my newly built wood coop for year round use by our dark cornish meat birds. I can't think of anything to cover it with that would really work year round, good luck though!

What do you plan to cover your run with?

There is a poly film called "Panda" film that comes in rolls of up to 100'. Its called panda because its white on one side and black on the other. I've used it in both 6 mil and 10 mil and its fairly weather resistant. I used a staple gun attaching it to wood so I'm not sure it would/could be used in your situation. It does block about 90% of the light as well. I bought it on line and a 5' x 100' roll was $89 plus shipping. You might check local home and garden suppliers to see if they have it.
