I am wondering what to put on my coop floor? The area is 4X8. Right now (cause I am so new to this) I just have hay down. Could someone give me ideas as to what works best?

You will not be happy with a hay floor at all! It retains moisture and it is difficult to clean/remove. Try several inches of pine chips you will be much happier. Some use sand flooring and sift it daily.

I am a huge fan of the sand floor in the run. Mine would only be a bit bigger than yours and it only takes me a couple of minutes a day to pick the poop up with a kitty litter scooper.

I did this:

Used railway sleeper-sized timbers to edge the run.

Stapled wire mesh underneath the whole floor to make it predator-proof. Depends on what may dig or burrow where you are.

Put about 10-12 cm of coarse river sand in there. Don't use builders sand or beach sand as it is too salty for them.

My run is covered and the girls love to dust bathe in it when everywhere else is wet and muddy. It drains very well (it used to only be partially covered but even then didn't stay wet for long). No smells and no raking out.

Too easy!
