Hello! This is my first time having a hen hatch eggs. When we found her stash, she had 17 eggs laid. Monday/ Tuesday must have been day 21 because 9 chicks hatched. Today, Friday, we have several left that she is still sitting on, but she is getting antsy. She's started to scratch around and accidentally kicking the remaining eggs. I have candled several and this is what they look like... to me they seem somewhat developed, but they don't seem to be moving. Are these eggs viable, or did they stop developing?

They were all together under her when I found her. Truthfully she's the neighbors chicken, but she spends all day every day over here. I noticed I hadn't seen her for awhile, and I found her on her egg stash just a couple days before they hatched. I moved her and all 17 eggs into a brooder so they wouldn't get eaten by the cats and wildlife out here. It's it possible she kept laying eggs after she started brooding?

Does the neighbor have any other hens who could have contributed to the nest? Also how big is she? My other thought was that she wasn’t able to keep them all evenly warm, and the ones left in the nest got left out of most of the brooding heat.

The eggs all look the same in color and size, but there is one other hen that comes over sometimes. And she's a big hen, but 17 eggs is a lot to cover. You might be right that they just didn't get enough heat. Could they still hatch do you think? Or did the lack of heat make them too stunted?
