The eggs under my JG hen are on day 6. I'm not very happy with most of them. Numbers 1 and 2 are the only ones that look like this. You can see the embryo, but no movement so I'm thinking that it has probably died. Then I have several ones similar to number three with no apparent development. Then, number four is one out of only three that looks about where it should be. It's hard to tell in the picture, but there's a nice network of veins and you can see the little embryo and heart beating. I just want some second (or third, or fourth) opinions about the first three because we have a good amount of $$$ invested in these eggs, so I am VERY reluctant to throw any away until I hear from the good ole' folks here at BYC.

It is hard to tell in the pictures. I always watch for movement, but if you have any doubt then leave the eggs under the hen. When I am not absolutely sure about an eggs development, I let it sit for a few more days. I wish I could tell you for sure about each egg but my opinion would just be a guess.

It's early yet. Give it time. I know it's exciting to be hatching eggs, but try not to candle them too often. Day 7 and day 14 are the only days I would candle. The less you mess with the eggs and your JG the better off your chances are with the eggs hatching. Make sure your hands are clean before handling them. Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I know, taking candling pictures is hard. I took like 5 of each one and tried to put the best one of each on the thread. I'll probably throw the ones that are not developing away, which I have always done. I did want to give them the benefit of the doubt, though.

Thank you. I usually candle at the end of each week as well. I may just leave them all under her and see what happens then.
