Help with first egg

I have a group of girls that were born in may and haven't started laying yet but I just picked up a 1 year buff orphington that laid this afternoon. Since this is my first ever egg as a new chicken owner it seemed pretty soft. It was still warm to the touch when I picked up but the shell immediately started to crack when I picked it up.

Is she missing something in her diet? Or do I just need to give her time to adjust to her new surroundings( meaning was she holding on the egg for a while)?

any help for a new guy would be appreciated!

Is that safe to do with the other hens a about 6 weeks away from laying?

i have always been told if they don't need it they wont eat it. i dont think it would hurt the younger ones. i just throw it in their run and i have eight 13 week chicks
