I need help gendering this newly hatched chick. I bought a fertilized egg and had my broody hen hatch it. She was successful but I’m thinking I got a roo on my hands. It’s suppose to be a Rhode Island Red x leghorn mix. They said the rooster was the Rhode Island Red. Any help is appreciated.

It’s quite a bit too early to sex the chick. For a much more accurate result it’s best to try and ask for the sex of the chick at around 6 weeks old.
I would usually wait until then but I know some hybrids are sex-link and depending on breeds you can sex from the feather color or pattern. I was wondering if anyone knows if the breeds I mentioned in post are able to do so.

With a rir sire and white leghorn dam, all the chicks would either be red or white, reguardless of gender so it must not be that mix.

You mean like the gray spots wouldn’t be there?
I'm not sure about the gray, but all the chicks, male or female, would all be either red or white. (I think white leghorns are dominant white but I'm not sure, they'd all be white in that case)
