Hey guys,

I'm new at this chicken thing...

I have 3 chickens.

1 Araucana who is 3 months old and today she started making some weird crys in a deeper voice. I am praying she is not a rooster, because we live in city limit and my son will be devastated. This is his chicken and it is his favorite. Please follow this youtube link and tell me your thoughts.

See if you can get some pictures of the feathers on the back. It looks like a pullet to me, but Ive heard that tell tale signs on an EE for being a rooster are: Red feathers in the shoulders, non-uniform feather patterns and of course you would see saddle feathers coming in.

I dont see red shoulders and the pattern of feathering looks uniform. I think your for sure way of telling would be saddle feathers.

Your bird looks a lot like my little pullet, but different colors.

As for the voice, all chickens are like teenage boys when they hit tat age, their voices change and they sound terrible. An adult hen will make the same noises. Mine complain all the time.

I'll try to get some more pics, but did the sound my chicken was making sound familiar to yours... is that normal?

EE pullet. I thinkt he reason she is making lower sounds is because her voice is changing. Yes, female chickens go through a voice change too.

Yes its normal, as she gets older she will make more noises like that. Chickens are weird that way. Get a rooster in with the ladies and they shut up. Since you cant have a rooster, they see you as the roo and bring you all the complaints for the day.
