im great with Easter Eggers, but terrible with silkies on judging gender. and all of these chicks have silkie in them and its messing with me a little, namely, the combs. any help? these guys are 5 weeks and im hoping to know the genders since i have someone tomorrow taking the suspected cockerels. any help is much appreciated.

chick one - looks like a pullet to me, has more EE features, but the comb is silkie i think..

chick two - the colors say pullet, but i just get a boy vibe from it...

Chick three - this one is weird. hes had a mohawk since his feathers started coming in haha. very feathered legs. not sure on this one, pullet colors and a single row pea comb, but im just not sure.. this is the first chick i ever hatched, so id like to keep it, but cant do anymore roos =/

and lastly, this is the one that is the hardest for me... so much silkie! i am thinking cockerel, but im not sure....

thank you. i have a terrible time with silkies. i have one that is a couple months old at least and still have no idea what it is (my husband says its his and we have to keep it either way lol). i loved the little black one since it hatched so i want to keep it. maybe ill see what others say and if people think pullet, ill hold onto it a bit longer. if it turns out to be a cockerel, ill find a home for it then.

I'm thinking pullet on all them but not 100%.

Thanks everyone! I hope they are all pullets, and that would be the most luck I have had in a while! A surprise purebred wyandotte (only one roo and 2 hens in a mixed flock of 25ish) turned out to be a cockerel but that's it. I gave 2 chicks to a coworker so I don't know how those turned out, probably males if I have all pullets here! Haha, at least she likes roos :)

im back again!

thinking i have all pullets (if so, it will be the luckiest ive ever been on my chicken journey), but the red one is making me question myself. it really is more of a red than a brown but it looks so pullet-like otherwise. flat comb so i cant judge by that but still looks pale. they got out of their pen and into the grown chicken pen and not a single chicken is picking on them. we tried putting a young silkie roo in with the older chicken since hes outgrowing the grow-out pen, and they went after him like crazy. these little things are like part of the flock, which is unusual. so part of me still thinks they are all pullets, but that red one and also the black one i am questioning. the black one i just cant judge by color, which im good at with EEs and the combs are flat silkie combs on all but 1, so cant go off that either. these silkie traits are stumping me, but i just LOVE the feathered feet and the mohawks!

anyways, here are some pictures from today. i hope they are clear enough.

Chick 1: single row, pale pea comb indicative of a pullet. the feather colors say pullet to me also.

Chick 2: i cant judge by color. flat black comb (skin is black as well) so cant judge on that... im hoping pullet, i love the way the feathers are purple in the sunlight! my black/orange rooster shines green, so the purple is a nice change!

Chick 3: this is the one that concerns me most (front). i was thinking pullet for the longest time, but that red is really getting brighter and i worry it is a cockerel =/ but the color is pretty solid, not splotched... the comb is flat, pink. i really hope this is a pullet!

the last one im pretty positive is female, so i wont post her (behind chick 3 above with the beard)
