I ordered a sustainable mix from cackle hatchery and they arrived today, hatched on Monday! There are 10, 4 black, 5 brown and 1 yellow.

So far I'm thinking the black ones are barred rocks, browns are 2 RIR and 3 ?brown leghorns, and yellow is probably buff orpington? Any guesses or other thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

I am hoping that one of the brown chipmunks is an easter egger honestly. But the browns are a little difficult to tell apart this young I feel like. But the darker brown color is throwing me off because I thought that easter eggers were lighter in color.

Have some new pictures of the chicks now, at 1 week old. Anymore thoughts? Supposed to have 8 females, 1 male (the one with the greenish dot on his head I assume; looks like RIR), but received 10 total.

I'm a little stumped with the black ones - should all be females, but the larger yellow/white spots on the their heads is confusing me. Also starting to think the yellow one is not a buff orpington?

Hey,
Sorry to jump onto your thread!
I was just wondering if you found out the breed of your chicks.
I have a black one with a little yellow spot on the head too and it’d be great to know what breed she/he is if you know.
Thanks,
Beth

The black ones with the white dots on the head look like either cuckoo Marans or Barred rocks. Females have the white dots as well so you shouldn’t worry about that.
The brown ones with the chipmunk stripes look like speckled Sussex. One of them I’m not so sure of, but the ones with the more chestnut coloring are likely speckled Sussex. The yellow ones do not look like the buff Orpingtons they may be your Easter Eggers, still hard to tell at this point. The very last photo, black one, looks like an Australorp.:)

I'm pretty sure I have at least 2-3 barred rocks as the barring coloring is starting to come out on their feathers. I agree that the other black one is definitely different, I too am hoping for a black australorp. Brown ones - I'm really excited that some think they could be speckled sussex, though I think the darker brown one is likely a brown leghorn, which is also good for a different egg color. But who knows, could also be welsummer. I am still unsure of my 1 yellow one thus far; however she does seem to have some more buff-colored feathers coming in.

I'll have to post more photos as they grow and feather out. I just moved them this afternoon to their big watermelon box brooder and they are loving the extra flying around space.

Few updated photos. They are getting so big and feathering out so quickly! I'm going to take them out to the mini coop within the chicken run tomorrow and let them start introductions with the momma hen and 7 week olds.

Few updated photos of the cuties! I think one of the barred rocks may actually be a dominique - has a wide, flat comb with a few small bumps. But for the life of me I can't get her to hold still long enough for my phone to focus and get a good photo. Might have a speckled sussex in there?
