The amoxicillin worked(big improvements )for my ducks when I took mine to the vet but really any should help.

So my Duck, Smore, is resting quietly in the dark, safe in a tote (towel clipped to the top) with her electrolyte water, some straw then towels curved around her so she can rest her neck on them. Is that okay? It’s kind of a tight fit in there, but maybe it feels safe. I can make a bigger one if that would be best? (The one I have her in will work well in the car when I take her to the Vet tomorrow - she’s too big for my cat carrier!) I haven’t tried a full warm bath yet, she’s still pretty out of it. Nor have I put Neosporin on her wounds yet.

I think I do have the right type (pictured). Please tell me if that’s correct and if so when you’d suggest putting it on her.

I am fortunate that we have an Exotic Animal/Bird vet that is just 4 miles away, (though not available on weekends), that can decide in the morning whether Smore needs sutures and Abx. I’ll let you know what she says, and I’m sure she’ll be impressed with the advice I got here.

I’ll be able to sleep tonight, (with Smore and her crate next to me), because of your help. I deeply appreciate it.

Any further thoughts on what I should do yet tonight?

You are getting good advice. Allbirdproducts.com is the only place I know where you can get antibiotics without a prescription. But it takes 4 or 5 days for them to arrive even with expedited delivery. I dont think you can get amoxycillin. You will have to get that from a vet or get the prescription from a vet. I use bayatril for potentially dirty wounds like predator bites. It comes with a slim plastic syringe (no needle) so that you can fise your duck down the side of the bill and gullet, away from the entrance to the trachea and lungs.

You might like to set up a little ducky first aid kit with emergency supplies, so that you dont have to wait to treat an injured duck on the future.

I avoid sutures unless they are needed at very deep layers to close the abdomen, chest or neck. I like blue kote spray for wounds. Vetericin spray is good inside a wound

I think that you are doing well keeping your girl comfortable. Please check the sachet of electrolytes. I dont think it contains glucose or sugar (sucrose). I would add sugar in the proportions that Jenbirdee gave for home made solution.

Good luck!! When you girl starts to move around, you might let her swim in your bath or similar where the water and tub are clean. ( not a wading pool in the garden which woukd not be clwan enough.) Good luck, keep us updated
