OK I'm no expert, but cyprus is a type of cedar, correct??
I wasn't sure where to post this because it's sort of coop related, sort of managing flock related, sort of injury related (or preventative).
Here's the deal: I want to mulch the area AROUND my run to keep the weeds down and make it look nice....but I have like 4 bags of cyprus mulch, and I know that cedar is not good for chickens...would it be OK to put the cyprus down around the run, if they aren't walking on it/pecking it. They'll be separated by a 4 x 4 ground post and hardware cloth. The only thing I'd be concerned about is if the wind blew some of the mulch into the run and they ate it...would this be a problem? Or if the odor from it around the run would bother their respiratory systems. Should I avoid it, or am I being too over-protective?
