help with my turkey

Quote:
Steve, when is a turkey ready for slaughter? At what age? Thanks

About 4 months for a BB type and 6+ for a heritage type, that's on the young end. I've eaten plenty of older birds 2 - 3 years old and they are fine. You just have to cook the older ones different.

all i can find are heritage birds. they wont be ready right? i need a BB in order to be ready for thanksgiving. bummer. any other suggestions?

i am in cornelius oregon about half an hour west of portland.

I found an ad for these would any of them be ready for thanksgiving?

(4) Oregon Gray, (4) Narragansetts, (1) Bourbon Red, (6) Chocolates???

also i got an answer about how much weight to minus for all the guts and head and feet usually around 3-4 pounds

okay so i just found a woman with a BB but it is four months old she says it will be ready by thanksgiving..... mine is four months old what the heck?

Well, what size dressed turkey are y'all aiming for when you say 14 weeks for a BB? Because mine are 13 weeks and they're not big enough for my liking. They might dress at 12 lbs, I'm guessing. I'd rather have a 25-30 lb turkey dressed! More bang for my buck.

agreed mine stands and walks great is really active organic and fed organic table scraps she lives in the orchard and loves to eat our fruit. She would be about 9 pounds if we processed now. i have a huge family so we want her to be a lot bigger

i think we are going to wait util thanksgiving and try to eat her then. if she gets uncomfortable sooner or way too big we will go ahead and eat her. so the best way to cook 8 month old BB? oh ad thaqks for all the info everyone. this is great.
