A weasel ripped through our last flocks defenses (dog kennel fencing covered by bird netting) and killed the entire 8 year old flock in one very sad night.

Now building entirely new coop and run for 8 Easter eggers and 8 Cinnamons. Probably overthinking but planning on 8x10 coop with 8x10 run. Metal fencing but not sure of what to use for run “roof.” Any suggestions and how to attach to dog run panels? Also do dimensions of coop and run sound good?

Thanks all!

If the openings of any of those fences are more than an inch you're going to feed the weasels again you need 1/4 or 1/2 inch 19 or stronger gauge hardware cloth. dog kennel wire has gaps that are too large, weasels can get through it, some small foxes can get through it, and raccoons can reach in and actually pull your chickens out through the holes killing them. I know you just said metal fencing so I don't know what your actual plan is it may already be hardware cloth but just wanted to add that. If you can fit two fingers in any of the gaps a weasel can get in. For the roof you can either build a frame and do hardware cloth or you can do the rigid metal roof stuff that you get at Home Depot but that does squiggle so you'd have to cover the gaps with hardware cloth so that the weasels can't get back in.

Also for the dimensions you want at least 4 square feet per chicken inside the coop and 8 to 10 square feet per chicken in an outdoor run
