: Hello, wondering if anyone can help me. I'm pretty new to the chick world. I have a breeding pair of Seramas and didn't realize that they were as old as they are. She is laying. She has laid 4 eggs in four days. I'm been taking them out b/c I wasn't ready - not enough room for all that yet but I just bought a new coop today and it is coming on Tues. I left the one she laid yesterday in her box but she didnt lay any today. I was going to give the eggs to my friend to put in her incubator but then I thought I would give them back to mama hen to sit. Is it too late to put them back. How long is the collection period before they are no good. I'm sure their not fertile but I thought it's worth a shot -- or should I just keep taking the eggs as they come until I set up their new coop and then let her sit another set? How long will it take her to start laying again. I thought they laid everyday or at least 5 days in a week period. Anybody know??

Some hens only lay every other day and not all hens go broody.

If I were you, I'd open a couple of the eggs up first to see if the roo is doing his job.

Get some golf balls. Put them in the nest after there are about 8 eggs/golf balls if she doesn't go broody then once you have a weeks worth, put them in your friends incubator.

Good luck.
