Help with pip on wrong end!

Hi all! I'm incubating a dozen eggs and one of my chicks (they're due to hatch today/tomorrow) just pipped last night! But it's on the skinny end. I've been reading about it and it seems like if it's an external pip, the chick has a pretty good chance. But i'm not sure if this pop is large enough for the chick to get air?! Should I leave it along for 12 hours or so and hope it makes progress? This is the first pip out of the dozen eggs so I don't want to open the incubator and mess the humidity up for the rest of the guys. :/

I'd just leave it. My wrong end pippers usually hatch on their own.

You're welcome! For sure keep an eye on it to check for progress. But, I let them go and they usually don't require assistance.

There hasn't been much progress. :/ the chick with the wrong end pip managed to knock the shell off so now I see membrane and I think it has a tear in it, so it can get oxygen I hope. My temps were pretty high for a couple of days; I hope that didn't ruin our hatch.

It looks pretty normal to me, as far as pips go. It can take them a long time from the initial external pip until zipping. They spend that in between time resting (the external pip is hard work) and absorbing their yolks and the blood that's in the veins that run through the membrane. If its still pecking at the shell, isn't peeping in distress or weakly, it'll be okay to go a while longer.

Just keep checking on it. It's worrying though, I've been there more times than I'd like!

What justifies "in distress"? It hasn't made an attempt at zipping all day. But it's made the hole bigger by a bit. It chirps every once in a while.
