My bantam hen started acting strange this morning. She was laying down with her head hidden in the corner. She hasn't moved all day so this evening I picked her up and examined her. Her abdomen looked a bit swollen so I figured she was eggbound and I soaked her in a warm bath. She soaked and relaxed for about 10 minutes then she stood up suddenly and sort of tensed up her whole body...kind of like she was trying to pass an egg or poop. I took her out of the bath and she ran behind the couch. I tried to dry her off a bit and she ran under the end table and she has been standing hunched in the corner for about an hour. She just stands hunched with her eyes closed. I tried massaging her but nothing yet. Am I doing the right thing?
I forgot to mention that she is an indoor chicken for about a week...since she was nearly scalped a week ago by her coop mates. Up until this morning she was very happy and energetic and was laying an egg a day, until yesterday...no eggs for 2 days now. She seemed to be eating and drinking well. Should I try to force feed her a Tums (read this on here) or just try and let her pass the egg.
Let me mention also that I am not 100% sure I feel and egg in her abdomen, but it is swollen.
