I have a silkie how turned out to be a roo but roosters are not allowed in our town

. Are their any ways to make their crowing not as loud. Do silkies crow alot and is their crow loud? Is it true that if you put the roosts high enough that the roo cant bend his head all the way up, he wouldn't crow as early? how could i make the coop more sound proof?

I've heard that castrating them stops them from crowing. I know my cochin crowed for about a week, then stopped for a month, then started crowing again.

would a vet castrate the chicken and does that cost a lot do you think? does it make them calmer? does anyone have any experience with a castrated chicken

I'd be interested in knowing the same.

I looked into that to stop my roo from crowing but most vets wont perform the surgery for caponisation, you may be able to find an old farmer to do it but that's kinda risky. Fear not there is some hope, if your roo is young enough you can curb the crowing with a squirt bottle. Just make sure not to hit the face and squirt them when ever you hear crowing, it may not be easy to do if the chicken is in a roost outside or in the far room. It works for me because I live in a one room shack on stilts, this is also the reason I care whether my roo crows or not. I hope that helps.

Update:
at 6 months old the squirt bottle no longer works.
