Help with sexing and breed, please.

Hi all! New fluffy butt mom of 4 here. We bought these, what we think are all gals, 2 weeks ago (they’re now approx 14 weeks old). Any idea breed of the whites? They kind of look like Columbian Wyandottes, but gentleman we bought from said they were California Whites. Also kind of suspicious that these whites are not gals at all (no one crowing yet)! BR’s seem to be gals, at least. seller said he would trade me out any that he mis-sexed for an older layer, but I would be heartbroken to see any of them have to depart (no roos allowed in my neighborhood). Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, at 14 weeks, with the amount of size and color to the combs, those have to be males. I would try and get replacements ASAP, and try to get them the same age and size as your other two girls.

How old though?

Yes, if he gives you older layers, you will need help integrating them together with the younger birds.

Some really older birds are non productive keep that in mind.

He’s a really nice guy. I’ll ask for some that are close in age to these ones. Any thoughts on the BR’s? Do you think they’re both hens or should I be even more worried? Lol!

I’ll ask for similar in age. He had a bunch of teenagers he was going to integrate into the big pen. I‘ll be sure not to get an older, less productive gal.
