Another hen or roo post!

I was told this baby was a silkie/lavender Orpington cross. Not sure if I believe that, but it’s a total sweetheart either way!

Would love your opinions on hen or roo.

Baby is about 11-12 weeks old.

Thank you so much!!!

Could you take some pictures of his/her face? The comb is usually the easiest thing for me to judge by ;). Also, silkies are very hard to sex… so I might be wrong, but I think he/she is a rooster. But I’ll have to see the comb to be a bit more definite.

Such a pretty pretty chick. Well, the comb looks small… so the only thing that says possible boy is the gold leakage (goldish coloring on the neck feathers). And BC Marans hens have gold leakage… I’ve changed my mind. I think your chick is a hen!!

I think it's a pullet. I can believe it is a silkie/lavender Orpington cross, too, because when you cross a lavender bird out to a bird that doesn't have the lavender gene, you get mostly black colored chicks with a little gold or silver leakage. It fits this bird to a T.
Thank you so much for your comment! I have done absolutely no genetic lessons with Orpingtons, so I really appreciate you weighing in with your expertise!
