So i just planted my baby spinach plants tonight... and a few of them have grown weird because i waited too long to get them in the ground. They have like small 1-in leaves on the outside of the plant, but on the inside of the plant there is a tall "shoot" type of thing with (i think) seeds on it..... (maybe 6-in tall)...
Have they gone to seed already? Will they still produce?
Thanks for any input..

Thanks for the help! I'll try to cut them back and see if they make it...
Worse comes to worse the critters will eat them...

Thanks again!

Spinach season is kind of short, since it doesn't like hot weather. Chard tastes similar and grows well in cool and warm weather. It's pretty and comes in a variety of colors, too. Maybe you could try some chard. I just harvest leaves from the outside and let the main part of the plant keep growing all year.

Yep, it's going to seed. The spinach I have grown got very bitter when it bolted so even cutting it back wouldn't make me harvest and eat spinach that has bolted. Maybe yours will be different, but I would just let it seed and save the seeds for next time.
