Help with sportsman 1502

I would love some help as I am getting to hatch some emu. This incubator really only seems to have a manual and automatic setting. The thing is I need to turn the eggs a whole lot less than once per hour. In fact I am told that is too much for an emu egg. Does anyone know how to make the automatic turner turn less cycles in a day. One thought I had was of course to let it run during the day when I’m gone and turn it off over the night, but I figured there must be a way to change this setting to every three hours vs every hour or something similar. If it can be adjusted. I don’t think it would be an easy task. There is usually a cam that opens and closes a switch. That sends power to the turner motor. On a set interval.

I put a bunch of emu eggs in a Sportsman after having them in a cheap incubator. So far 5 have hatched and there are 15 or so more to go. The turner is set to automatic and so far it has only helped improve hatch rates vs the hand turning method in the old incubator. If anything, I would be checking the temp with a second calibrated thermometer. My Sportsman is 1 degree lower than it’s reads.

So you have just let them turn every hour and there wasn’t any hatching issues at all? People told me they wouldn’t hatch it I did it that way!

One hatched today, the little one in the photo hatched last week. Two more due to hatch Saturday. 4 others in a play pen. The constant turning had zero negative affects on hatch rate. My manual turning and not turning at night could have led to my first 8 or so eggs not making it.

Just make sure to check the temp of your incubator. The Sportsmam should hold temp well, but you have to verify that it’s holding the correct temp. Humidity set at 35% to 38% is perfect where I’m located. Could be different for you. Open the incubator door a few times a day to let fresh air in. Equally important, as the eggs release carbon dioxide and need fresh air exchange.

Edited to add: Temp is set at 97F. It fluctuates from 97 to 97.5.

Yep, another one hatched Friday while I was out of town. Then one more should be coming out any day now.
